The decisions you make on plan and policy implementation will support over 1 million residents. Reporting to the Branch Manager, Current Planning Branch, you will through leadership:
* Ensure the preparation and implementation of the Municipal Development Plan, policy plans, and area plans as required for established and developing areas * Build and engage a strong, dynamic, engaged team of 30 planning technical and professional staff * Develop and implement tools to facilitate an effective and transparent planning approval process * Develop a set of performance measures and a system to monitor ongoing performance, identify opportunities for improvements, and implement changes to planning processes and services * Oversee the planning review of area structure plans, neighbourhood structure plans, zoning and subdivision applications, make recommendations and presentations to approval authorities * Represent the Department at Council Committee Meetings and Public Hearings * Report to committees and City Council on changes to planning processes and services * Conduct research and provide advice and consultation regarding physical and community development * Contribute to short and long term financial plans and their implementation
Qualifications :
* Masters degree in Urban or Regional Planning or related area * A professional designation recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners * 10 years experience in municipal planning including area structure plans, neighbourhood/community plans, 6 years of which are in a leadership role * Strong knowledge of local government, land development economics, and urban design * Ability to lead and engage a professional team to achieve the delivery of great service * Proven project management, leadership, change management, and team building experience * Excellent communication, presentation, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills * Ability to work collaboratively with various levels within the City and with the Province, including elected or appointed officials * Understand and demonstrate the "art of the possible" and "think on your feet" through strong analytical and problem solving abilities
Note: This may require the applicant to obtain business use auto insurance. A valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Drivers License or operators licensing equivalent recognized by the Operator Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation, Alta. Reg. 320/2002 is required. Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
