The City of VancouverPlanner IIMain Purpose & Function This position is responsible for providing a range of professional and technical services including the analysis ofcommunity planning priorties and the devleopment of community plans and planning programs.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities This work involves managing complex urban issues as part of community planning programs, area land use and zoning studies, major rezonings and public realm initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative and independent judgment in dealing with a variety of people and situations as well as be a leader who can develop teams and advance work programs. Participation on other Divisional project teams will be required. Related duties include: preparation and management of work programs; staff supervision; managing consultancies; negotiation with landowners and developers; report writing and presentations to City Council, boards, staff and the public.
Qualifications This position requires university graduation in Planning or a related field of study, preferably with a post-graduate degree and a minimum of two years of professional experience in the Planning field, supplemented by supervisory experience. Applicants must have worked as a community planner with experience in developing and carrying out community planning programs and completing projects within prescribed time frames. Applicants must have a proven ability and experience developing planning policy while working with the public and dealing with diverse interest groups. Excellent public process and communication skills are required as well as the ability to deal effectively with conflict situations. A working knowledge of and experience with the City's land use policies is required. A working knowledge of urban design and built form analysis is an asset. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planning is desirable.
