This vacancy has expired and is for reference only. City of EdmontonDirector, Area PlanningAs the Director of Area Planning you will be accountable for leading and managing business units responsible for:
* Mature Neighbourhood / Transit-Oriented Development Planning - the preparation of land use plans and studies to guide redevelopment in mature neighbourhoods and around future LRT stations * Smart Choices Program - development and implementation of various smart growth initiatives, including preparation of a proposal for a new neighbourhood commercial revitalization program and finalization of transit-oriented development guidelines * Downtown Plan - finalization of new downtown zoning and implementation of Capital City Downtown Plan * Community Outreach and Education - Facilitation of planning process for selected rezoning applications, and operation of Planning Academy, including development of new course material
You will be directly responsible for:
* Participating in the preparation of capital and operating budgets, and branch business plans * Representing the Branch, Department and Administration in various settings and with a range of customers and stakeholders * Collaborating with the Branch Manager and Directors in actively leading, managing and improving the Branch and implementing Departmental goals, objectives, programs, initiatives and directions
Qualifications :
* University degree in Urban or Regional Planning or related, preferably at the Masters level * Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) * Ten (10) years experience in public municipal planning, six (6) years of which are at a managerial level * Proven skills in communication, presentation, negotiation, conflict resolution, problem solving, and project management * Proven leadership abilities in setting directions and aligning resources, growing and retaining talent, creating high performance work environments, steering change, and building influential business relationships
Note: Applicants may be tested. Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
Salary Range: ML4, $98,900.00 to $141,285.00 Annually.
