Planner 1

Our Development Services Department's Planning Division is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated professional to join their team as a Planner 1. This position offers a great opportunity to work on a variety of projects and initiatives relevant to guiding the sustainable growth and direction of a community-focused municipality. Your interest and passion for planning policy includes, but is not limited to social dimensions, housing and neighbourhood design and is coupled with your enthusiasm, energy and skills.

Working under the direction of the Manager of Planning this position will:

• Research, analyze and prepare policy documents;
• Undertake and assist with community consultation processes;
• Review and recommend amendments to land use regulations and policies;
• Make presentations to a variety of audiences;
• Provide liaison with internal and external agencies and groups.

The successful applicant to this position will have strong verbal and written communication skills; have the ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively; be flexible and adaptable in responding to changing priorities; and be able to understand and problem solve complex issues.

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement. The 2010 salary for this full-time position starts at $68,000 annually and includes a comprehensive benefit package upon successful completion of a four-month probationary period.

Requirements


Requirements include a Masters Degree in community or regional planning and a minimum two years of relevant experience. A valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and registration or eligibility for registration with the Planning Institute of British Columbia are also required.
