Manager, Economic & Housing Analysis

Interested candidates must apply by 30 July 2010 (Eastern time).

* Reporting directly to the Director of the Market Analysis Centre, the incumbent functions with minimal direction and supervision and is head of the Housing and Economic Analysis Team.
* As a member of the Centre's management team and participates, plans and provides input into all divisional planning and operational processes. Responsible, in collaboration with the Chief Economist, for the quality control of the content of national market analysis publications (Housing Market Outlook Canada, Housing Now Canada, Rental Market Highlights Canada or others), including the accuracy, relevance, and quality of the underlying analyses, models, and forecasts.
* Manages the Division's resources in analysis, modeling, and forecasting of economics, housing activity, and mortgage markets to meet both its internal and external client needs.
* Manages work assignments, schedules, and quality control processes that support the timeliness and the accuracy of the release for all the content produced by the Economic and Housing Analysis group.
* Participates in the management of the Market Analysis function and leads projects relevant to its development.
* Manages the development of new products and services or the enhancement of existing ones in cooperation with the regions, as appropriate.


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Master's degree in Economics with major coursework in econometrics and a minimum of 5 years job related experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
* Demonstrated experience in providing analysis and forecasting of national economic conditions and housing markets.
* Demonstrated experience in leading a team of professionals.
* A PhD degree will be considered an asset.

Skills and Knowledge

* Excellent skills in managing and prioritizing a varied and highly demanding workload.
* Experience in team leadership skills and project management.
* Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences on complex subjects (oral and written)
* Ability to establish project terms of reference and plan the completion of studies.
* Experience in analyzing business and economic conditions and interpreting their impact on one or more big ticket markets or industry/business sector(s) (including housing) is an asset.
* High level of knowledge and demonstrated experience in the application of statistics, econometric modeling, regression analysis, seasonal adjustment, simulation and forecasting techniques, and statistical software packages.
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
* Knowledge and understanding of external public and private data and information services involved in the monitoring and analysis of economic activity (e.g., Statistics Canada).
* Ability to develop, recommend and present new ideas and approaches to analyzing problems.
