Transit Planner

(Contract - Up to 12 months)

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:


* University degree in Urban/Transportation Planning or related discipline.
* Minimum of 3-5 years progressive experience in a public transit/transportation environment.
* Professional Planning designation in Ontario is an asset.
* Strong mathematical background, preferably with statistical analysis experience including both quantitative and qualitative research.
* Demonstrated project management skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and strong ability to work in a team environment.
* Tact and diplomacy to deal with internal and external stakeholders.
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills to deliver professional reports, presentations, and customer correspondence.
* A valid Ontario Class ‘G' driver's license with a clean driving record and a reliable vehicle to use on business is required.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Under the direction of the Manager of Service Development, and working as a member of the Transit Planning Unit, the successful candidate will:

* Develop and revise short term service plans in the context of Mississauga Transit's goals and the City's overall public transportation strategies.
* Work together with other team members as well as with staff from other sections and Divisions.
* Optimize resource utilization by analyzing customer requests and comments, considering the evolution of ridership trends and needs, understanding customer clustering and evolving local and inter-system services.
* Achieve excellence in coordination with other business units within the Section and across the Division.
* Use recognized industry standards, coherent application of sound transit planning techniques, and in-depth understanding of public transit's role in the context of the City's Strategic Plan.
* Represent Mississauga Transit on various ad-hoc work groups and/or committees.
* Investigate customer complaints/requests, responding to queries or concerns from different governing bodies, and provide technical comments on proposed adjustments to existing service levels.
* Other duties as assigned.


SALARY: Grade F $67,630 - $90,174


Acceptable candidates which may only meet minimum qualifications may be considered for an appointment at a Grade E level ($59,420 - $79,227).
