Planner I

As a Parks Planner I, you will provide research and planning support in parks and open space planning projects. Projects and initiatives such as the Community Facility Requirements Study and Public Spaces Strategy are identified in the "Urban Parks Management Plan - 2006 - 2016". These projects and initiatives, will direct budgets, standards and policies for the future capital development of Edmonton's parks and open space.You will apply your analytical and research skills to prepare reports and recommendations on park systems development. The successful candidate's role will include:
  • Preparing reports and summarizing the results of research of parks planning issues
  • Supporting the Parks planning staff in designing and organizing the research and analytical components on projects to ensure approporiate techniques and methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis are utililized
  • Developing work program and project terms of reference including objectives, directions and methodologies
  • Preparing information for training and mentoring staff on policies, procedures and standards
  • Preparing presentations to various stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or a degree related to the functions specific to the position
  • A minimum of two (2) years related planning experience
  • Knowledge of computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Access, Intergraph Microstation, Posse and other related City operating programs will be considered an asset
  • Must communicate effectively both verbally and in written form and demonstrate ability to contribute effectively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of parks inventory systems, statistical techniques and research methodology
  • Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and Alberta Institute of Planners
  • Applicants must possess a valid Alberta Driver's License. A current driver's abstract is required prior to employment
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide their own vehicle for City use and where appropriate will be reimbursed according to City policy
  • A satisfactory security clearance from the Edmonton Police Services is required prior to employment.
Note: Those applicants not possessing the full job requirements for this position may be considered for appointment in accordance with the Opportunity Concept provisions of the collective agreement between the City and CSU 52.
HOURS OF WORK: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
SALARY RANGE: 21M, Salary Grade: 030, $37.128 - $46.193 (Hourly), $2,506.14 - $3,166.63 (Bi-Weekly), $65,140.25 - $82,648.98 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
