Region of Peel

Planner

Reporting to the Planning Manager, you will provide Corporate Services with expertise to implement the Regional Official Plan (ROP) and lead planning research and analysis projects to support the planning policy and program efforts of the Region. You will also be responsible for researching, creating, maintaining, and coordinating statistical data, with emphasis on demographics, socio-economics, social indicators, housing data and projections for use by the Region, local municipalities, other GTA Regional municipalities, consultants and special interest groups • leading the Peel Data Centre initiative • providing research, policy development and support on assigned topics related to the Regional Official Plan • organizing stakeholder and public consultation events required for regional official plan amendments • preparing reports and technical summaries to General Committee and Council • responding to requests for information from other departments, agencies and the public • preparing bulletins, reports and presentations • leading small and medium-scale planning projects, and bringing together internal and area municipal staff • contributing to the development and content of the Peel Data Centre website • assisting management by conducting research related to policy development • representing the department and Regional interests on committees, technical advisory teams and work groups.

Success Requires: • an Honours degree in planning or a related field • a minimum of three years of experience in a planning position or related field • strong working knowledge of the Regional Official Plan, Local Official Plans, Places to Grow, Greenbelt Plan, Provincial Policy Statement, the Ontario Planning Act, as well as other legislation affecting land use planning • knowledge of Census data and other socio-economic and planning data • knowledge and experience working with a broad range of statistical data sources to support Regional policies • knowledge and experience in one or more of the 15 focus areas of the Regional Official Plan Review • well-developed skills in the collection, organization, analysis and reporting of demographic and socio-economic data • strong working knowledge of GIS and ESRI ArcGIS software and its applications to Planning • ability to organize and lead inter-departmental and inter-agency working groups • excellent organizational skills in leading projects, prioritizing and meeting deadlines • good research and presentation skills • membership in OPPI/CIP is preferred.
