Region of Peel

Principal Planner

As an integral member of the Transportation team, you will be reporting to the Manager, Transportation System Planning, you will be an expert and resource for Council, management and staff in transportation planning related matters that impact safe and efficient movement of goods in Peel Region. Duties include: • conduct goods movement studies, research, analysis and strategic reviews for Peel Region • develop and enhance partnerships with industry and other levels of government with a view to improving the goods movement system in Peel • work with appropriate partners to improve the knowledge of goods movement issues in Peel; advance Regional goods movement plans and policies; and develop a strategic goods movement network in Peel • provide support to the Peel Goods Movement Task Force, help to ensure that the Task Force meets the needs of its members, and implement its directions in coordination with partner agencies • act as project manager for goods movement and related transportation planning projects • represent and defend the Region's good movement and related transportation planning policies and interests at the OMB and other tribunals • represent the Region on task forces, working committees and technical advisory teams and provide leadership in transportation planning/goods movement • provide direction and allocate work to departmental staff.

Success requires · University degree in Engineering, Urban Planning or a related field • Masters degree or further post-secondary education in transportation planning, economics, management, logistics or a related field will be considered an asset • minimum of 5 years experience in a responsible transportation planning/goods movement, logistics or related position • knowledge of major goods transportation providers and users in Peel Region and a good understanding of goods movement, supply chain and logistics operations and issues • demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting using well-developed communications, project management, analytical, problem-solving and computer skills • membership in the PEO, OPPI CIP or Logistics Institute is preferred.
