Senior Geomatics Engineer

As part of the SNC-Lavalin group of companies, SNC-Lavalin T & D designs, develops, and delivers engineering, including system planning and studies, procurement, and construction solutions for high voltage power transmission line and substation projects in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and abroad, from our Canadian and Brazilian offices.

SNC-Lavalin T & D has exciting full time career opportunities for experienced Senior Geomatics Engineers. Based out of our Calgary office, the Geomatics Engineer will be responsible for providing electronic mapping, spatial information, data management and surveying specifications for the implementation of high voltage electrical transmission line & substation facilities.

Reporting to the Manager, Lines Engineering and as part of the GIS group, the Geomatics Engineer will work within a multi-discipline team to produce geomatic investigations and provide sound geomatic recommendations. The Geomatics engineer will perform his/her activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. This role will also provide assistance to the Estimating Team in the preparation of project scopes and project proposals.

Additional accountabilities for the Geomatics Engineer include:
• Solid background in GIS, Drafting, data management, project management, 2D/3D analysis and visualization.
• GPS/Conventional land surveying, data processing and analysis.
• Execution of mapping projects and integration of different spatial data sources working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Data Management, spatial analysis, data integration and QA/QC of spatial data for engineering design.
• Working with GPS, Lidar data, survey data, parcel mapping, Land titles, high resolution imagery and Alberta Township System.
• Image processing and spatial analysis for route selection.
• Producing prompt and accurate mapping services and products.
• Preparing data quality/management plans, standards and metadata.

Qualifications for the position include:

• A degree in Geomatics, Civil or related Engineering degree from a recognized institution.
• Eligible for registration with APEGGA.
• A minimum of 10 years experience in GIS. Experience in Linear projects is an asset.
• Advanced knowledge in ESRI suite of products: ArcMap, ArcEditor, ArcGIS.
• A minimum of 3 years experience customizing GIS applications, web mapping applications and implementation and application development experience through GIS project life cycle.
• A minimum of 3 years experience with internet/web mapping and database creation (MS Access, SQL Server).
• Programming skills (ArcObjects, Visual Basic, C#.NET, HTML, Java, AutoLisp) is an asset.
• Experience in the transmission and distribution industry an asset.
• Knowledge of Canadian and Alberta codes and standards, including OH&S Regulations, CSA and AECUC codes is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills and strong technical writing ability.

Based upon the anticipated project work, there may be extended periods where significant field work and travel to site locations will be required.
