Intermediate Route Administrator

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor, the Intermediate Route Administrator is responsible for the design and implementation of student transportation through the use of a computerized transportation route planning software. The Intermediate Route Administrator will plan routes and maximize system efficiencies within prescribed parameters set out in the SCSTC policies and procedures, related policies and procedures defined by member district school boards and/or applicable legislative requirements. This position provides support to the SCSTC, member district school boards and the school vehicle operators.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Intermediate Route Administrator will be responsible for performing duties in the areas set out below:

Route Planning, Operating Efficiencies & Software

  • Plan vehicle routes for students of the member district school boards.
  • Generate reports from the transportation route planning software to assist with analysis.
  • Conduct on-going analysis of vehicle routing; recommend and implement route modifications / alterations / deletions to increase operating efficiencies.
  • Work with schools and school vehicle operators in the development of student transportation routes.
  • Maintain accurate data in the computerized transportation route planning software.
  • Maintain familiarity with legislation applicable to student transportation, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Respond to requests via email and phone calls from school vehicle operators, schools and parents/guardians.
  • Investigate and report on school vehicle accidents and incidents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Routine Communications

  • Liaise with and monitor school vehicle operators for adherence to route plans and SCSTC policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with staff at member district school boards.
  • Initiate and facilitate school communication meetings between school staff and school vehicle operators as required.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of transportation policies and procedures, contracts, surveys and reports.
  • Attend meetings with outside agencies representingSCSTCas required.
  • Respond professionally to inquiries from parents/guardians, school staff and school vehicle operators.
  • Assist in the development, provisions and implementation of student safety materials and programs as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma preferably in one or a combination of the following disciplines: Math, Business, Urban Planning, GIS, Geography, Communications and/or Economics.
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience.
  • Advanced computer skills using software applications including: Microsoft Word, Excel and Access and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to conduct analysis of available information and prepare reports based on same.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have valid Ontario Driver’s License, clean driving abstract and access to a reliable vehicle for occasional business needs.
  • Ontario Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) certificate in Pupil Transportation Management is an asset.
  • Experience using GIS is an asset.
  • Fluency in oral and written French is an asset.

OTHER INFORMATION RELATED TO THE POSITION

Confidentiality

  • The Intermediate Route Administrator will have access to confidential data (i.e. student records, student medical information) and is required to conduct daily business in keeping with related privacy legislation and related confidentiality policies.

Police Records Check

  • The Intermediate Route Administrator will be required to obtain an acceptable criminal background check covering convictions, charges and occurrences under the Criminal Code, the Narcotics Control Act, and any other convictions, charges and occurrences which would be revealed by the long version Vulnerable Persons search of the automated Criminal Records Retrieval System maintained by the RCMP at the Canadian Police Information Centre (collectively referred to as “Criminal Background Check” and “Vulnerable Persons search”).

COMPENSATION

  • $49,284 - $52,118 dependant on applicants relevant education and experience.
