Transportation Engineer

The City of St. John’s is a progressive, expanding municipality seeking a talented professional to join our team in providing quality transportation services. This position will report directly to the Director of Engineering.

Duties:
The successful applicant will provide long range transportation/mobility planning and ensure that the City expands consistently with reference to multiple transportation modes, and in the context of the overall City planning goals; assess major development applications, prepare terms of reference for traffic impact studies, review final report and make recommendations; interpret traffic manuals and prepare presentations and technical reports, such as traffic impact assessments and traffic management plans, for City Council and committee meetings; provide expertise and mentorship on transportation issues; attend/chair committee meetings; and keep current with latest traffic trends, technology, and applicable traffic legislation and codes.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have successfully graduated from a recognized university with a degree in Civil Engineering supplemented by transportation related courses, and be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL). Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience as a Professional Engineer, including (5) years of experience in the area of transportation engineering. Proficiency in GIS applications and transportation software packages, such as VISSIM, Synchro and SimTraffic is required. Applicants must have excellent teamwork, communication, presentation and report writing skills with an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, general public, professional consultants, contractors, and media. A valid Class 5 driver’s license is required as well as Business Insurance for use of personal vehicle.

Compensation:
The rate of pay for this position is currently under review. This is a management position with salary and benefits being in accordance with the City's Management Compensation Plan.
