Planner, Ministry of Transportation

Do you have a unique combination of multi-modal transportation and data analysis and forecasting experience?
Bring your technical skills and transportation policy knowledge to this challenging opportunity within Ontario Ministry of Transportation's Planning Branch, where you will conduct data collection analysis and modelling to support Ontario's long-range planning needs.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• use modelling and quantitative analysis to lead the development of new data visualizations and tools to support the Ministry of Transportation's iCorridor website (www.mto.gov.on.ca/icorridor)
• use Geographic Information System (GIS) software to develop and present transportation planning and performance metrics
• apply large data analysis using multi-million-record databases
• use programming languages in order to retrieve and analyze data
• Work on multidisciplinary teams to identify metrics and analysis products to support policy recommendations
• Develop analytical tools, reports and presentations, and present them to decision-makers.
• conduct studies involving transportation performance assessments, data collection, trend analysis and demand forecasting

How do I qualify?

Data Forecasting and Analysis
• you know theory and practice of transportation system performance analysis and travel demand forecasting
• you have the ability to interpret and advise on the performance of the transportation system, the impacts of various policies and programs on its efficiency and effectiveness in meeting the objectives
• you have a demonstrated experience in analyzing large databases and applying data fusion, and data visualization tools, to provide insight on complex transportation issues.

Project Management and Consulting Skills
• you can plan and lead projects within established timeframes that result in the analysis and forecasting of passenger and goods movement
• you use sound judgement to consult with stakeholders and provide options

Communication, Interpersonal and Presentation Skills
• you can communicate effectively to build and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders
• you can prepare and present information in a clear and concise manner
• you have excellent written and oral communications skills to prepare reports and analyses

Computer Skills
• you are proficient with various computer software applications and databases office software, database software, and specialized software to perform travel demand forecasting and analysis (e.g. GIS software, transportation modelling software).
• you can apply your knowledge of programming languages to support data processing.
