Travel Options Planner and Program Assistant

We work together to provide a safe, reliable, efficient, customer-focused transportation system that supports all modes of travel and promotes sustainability and smart growth.

Responsibilities
Liveable Streets Division focuses on innovative solutions to urban transportation challenges. This division manages Complete Streets and city-wide planning for walkability, cycling solutions, community traffice and offering travel choices in Calgary.

Liveable Streets Division has an exciting opportunity for a summer student to fill the role of Travel Options Planner and Program Assistant. The City is committed to providing great travel options to all Calgarians in alignment with the Municipal Development Plan and Calgary Transportation Plan. This position will support more travel options such as walking, bicycling, taking transit, carpooling, carsharing and teleworking. Specific duties of this position will involve:

Enhance employee mobility choices program.
Promote travel options at various events.
Update and promote websites.
Create promotional content through written, visual, multimedia and social media.
Host and engage events.
Implement employer travel option programs.
Research behaviour changes and best practices.
Plan, design and conduct data collection and analysis, for example: surveys.
Review travel option demands.

Qualifications
The successful applicants must be enrolled in a diploma or degree program related to Social Science, Planning, Public Health, Engineering, Communications, Public Relations, Education, or Marketing. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required. A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) would be considered an asset. Preference will be given to applicants with an interest in sustainable transportation options and previous experience in public outreach, program development and research.

Success in this position requires applicants to demonstrate an aptitude in problem solving, research and analysis. Applicants must possess strong communication skills and the ability to work with various audiences. Well developed program management, organization, along with time and people management skills are essential.

Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
You must have attended school full time in 2014/2015 to apply on this competition and intend to return to school on a full time basis in the next academic year.
This position is subject to Union dues.
More than one position will be filled from this competition.

Union/Position: CUPE Local 38/Temporary Student Position (May - August)
Compensation: $23.66 per hour
Hours of Work: The standard hours of work for this position average 35 hours per week, which is comprised of 7.5 hours per day for 14 days and one day off unpaid in each three-week period. Some evening and weekend work maybe required.
