JOB SUMMARY:

Resumes are being accepted for a temporary position of Travel Demand Management (TDM) Coordinator in the Engineering Services Department of Infrastructure, Development and Enterprise. The TDM Coordinator will be responsible for leading and managing projects, activities and initiatives that further the City of Guelph’s goals to reduce energy consumption in transportation by 30% by 2031, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance community health and wellness. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City of Guelph Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, excellence and wellness, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Community Vision – to be the city that makes a difference.

 

HOURS OF WORK:

 

35 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.  Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends in order to attend meetings and events.

 

DUTIES:

 

  • Leads the development and implementation of TDM initiatives including overseeing the Active Transportation Network Feasibility and Design Study and the Cycling Survey
  • Manages implementation of the Cycling Master Plan, including: coordination with Engineering and Traffic Services staff to advise on the design of walking and cycling facilities; executing educational outreach and promotion programs, and supporting community cycling events and activities such as the Tour de Guelph.
  • Provides advice and recommendations from a technical and practical TDM perspective to various departments on projects including the Transit Priority Project, local traffic studies, carshare service expansion, and others.
  • Coordinates with Development Planning and Development Engineering staff in reviewing development applications.  
  • Serves an advisory, facilitation and advocacy support role to the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Active and Safe Routes to School Committees and provide supplemental support as needed to Guelph area schools to encourage walking to school.
  • Works with Guelph Transit and Youth Services to develop a Youth Transit Strategy to facilitate increased use of transit and its integration with cycling and walking in Guelph. 
  • Coordinates and liaises with other government agencies, residents, institutions, businesses and other stakeholders to advance TDM projects and related strategic objectives of the City
  • Coordinates with Planning, By-Law and Traffic Investigations staff in regard to updating policies and bylaws to reflect new facilities and programs, as needed.
  • Works with external consultants including project identification, preparing terms of reference and hiring and managing consultant work.                                                              
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with community groups and stakeholders to raise community awareness and promote community participation in TDM initiatives and events.
  • Undertakes public consultations on specific TDM initiatives, projects when required.
  • Seeks out supplementary funding opportunities such as government grants and awards to further support TDM activities and/or studies.
  • Prepare committee/council reports, recommendations and presentations as required. 
  • Represent the City of Guelph on various regional and national committees
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

                           

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through a degree in Planning, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Geography or closely related field and 2 – 3 years progressive experience related to Travel Demand Management programs and initiatives. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess a valid Class “G” driver’s licence with a good driving record.  Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their licence is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years.  The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of urban sustainable transportation practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and work with various stakeholders, including provincial and federal agencies,  institutions, businesses, residents, students, employees and colleagues.
  • Ability to be a self-starter able to work with minimal supervision and also work effectively in team situations
  • Ability to provide a solution oriented, customer service approach using good judgement, creativity and strategic thinking
  • Strong organizational skills and project management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Accomplished skills and experience in research and analysis
  • Intermediate skills in Windows based computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written, verbal (public speaking) and visual communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act

 

SALARY:

 

$31.20 - $38.33 per hour
