CPP Environmental is currently seeking a full time GIS Team Lead to join our team of professionals.

Opportunity Description
Based out of our office in Sherwood Park, Alberta the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work full time with a diverse group of environmental professionals to deliver high quality services and products to a wide range of industry and government clients.


Responsibilities include:

  • Overall administrator that manages and is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Geographic Information System (GIS) for CPP Environmental. Includes managing the day to day GIS operations of the company, ensuring that the GIS needs of CPP projects are met, and delivering GIS products in a timely and quality manner.
  • Supervision of GIS Technician which includes assigning tasks, setting work schedules, discipline as part of the CPP management team, review and approval of time off requests, and the evaluation of employee’s performance including direct involvement in employee performance reviews.
  • Undertaking data analyses and data conversion.
  • Coordinating the acquisition of new spatial data and supervising the integration of these data into the organization’s GIS.
  • Developing and managing quality control procedures.
  • Designing, developing, testing, and documenting applications.
  • Designing and implementing GIS training plans.
  • Diagnosing and “troubleshooting” problems experienced with the use of GIS and related software.
  • Preparing project plans, and directing vendors (consultants) and internal project teams to accomplish plan tasks in order to meet user/ data/software requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in GIS. Consideration will be given to candidates with a natural resource or environmental sciences background and extensive GIS related work experience and training.
  • Minimum four (4) full years of GIS related experience.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the ability to use their diverse background of skills and experience in developing and delivering high quality services and products to our clients.


Attributes of the ideal candidate:

  • Working knowledge of GIS technical skills, concepts and terminology including map projections, coordinate systems, and datum transformations.
  • Experience providing GIS services to private industry and government agencies.
  • Working knowledge and experience with, but not limited to, the following software:
  • ESRI GIS software suite of products (ArcGIS)
  • Python
  • AutoCAD
  • Global Mapper
  • Knowledge and experience working on projects that deal with 3D modelling, geodatabase concepts, and watershed mapping.
  • Well-spoken and able to articulate concepts and solutions clearly to clients and regulatory agencies in reports, presentations, and meetings.
  • Supervisory experience.
