A chance for you to do proactive sustainable community planning in a growing city!
As a Principal Planner (Planner II) in Edmonton’s Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Planning team, you will be developing creative urban planning solutions for areas around light rail transit (LRT) stops, transit corridors and transit centres. Using effective project management skills you will carefully plan and strategically carry out an effective planning process in consultation with citizens and other stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include:
Initiating and completing station area plans
Conducting additional transit oriented development projects
Determining and developing effective tools to implement plans including zoning and infrastructure upgrades
Collaborating with City departments, other agencies, landowners and communities to achieve integrated solutions
Reviewing draft reports and development proposals within station areas
Preparing and delivering presentations, writing articles and reports for City Council, the administration, and the public
Providing professional planning advice to the public, City Council, and other members of the City administration
Finding and/or negotiating solutions to complex issues while operating in a politicized environment
- Hiring and managing consultants as required

Qualifications
:
A Master's degree (preferred), a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, or a degree related to the functions of the position
A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience that includes management of redevelopment planning projects or programs
Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation or membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners or a related professional body is desirable
Demonstrated ability to confidently perform advance/complex level planning duties, take initiative and provide lead hand supervision
Significant knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning, as well as applicable legislation and regulatory requirements
Significant knowledge of the principles, policies, and/or practices related to socio-economic, demographic, and land use analysis, transit-oriented development, intensification, urban design, and leading edge public involvement strategies
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills for a broad range of audiences
Good customer service, teamwork, negotiation, organizational and project management skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Superior skills with Microsoft Office Google Docs and/or Gmail, and sufficient knowledge of GIS and other applications to direct technical work
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 032, $42.306 - $53.987 (Hourly); $74.532.60 - $95,111.60 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton. This union contract is currently under negotiation.
