Geographic Information Systems Technician (Contract Position – Parental Leave Coverage)

Join us in serving our higher calling of spirit in service for vibrant communities! This is a full-time temporary position for 12 months to cover a parental leave with the potential for an extension.


Our interdisciplinary professional practice in Winnipeg, established in 2017, serves a wide variety of municipal, first nation and provincial clients throughout the region. You would be joining a small but mighty, enthusiastic, and passionate team focused on nurturing strong collaborative relationships with our clients working hard to develop value to communities. 


Across Urban Systems, our GIS practitioners work with community planners, engineers, landscape architects, environmental professionals and technologists to produce high quality work in a fast-paced environment. This position will play a supporting role and will work closely with the existing GIS Specialists in Vancouver as well as provide broader support to the Urban Systems offices in Saskatoon. You will be responsible for providing cartography and GIS technical support to multiple areas of practice including engineering, transportation, environmental and community planning.  Regular travel to our Vancouver and Saskatoon offices will be a key component of this position to ensure the successful candidate receives regular coaching/mentoring as well as provides support to projects in other offices.

 

Typical duties may include:

 

Create and maintain spatial and tabular information using a variety of software platforms such as ArcGIS Pro, Excel, ArcGIS for Desktop, and other spatial data tools;


Manage GIS portion of engineering or planning project (data management, GIS leadership, client contact);

 

Scripting and automation of GIS tasks;

 

Perform basic spatial analysis and geo-processing tasks;

 

Conduct spatial data editing/maintenance;

 

Mobile mapping, web mapping, and web mapping customization;

 

Data editing and management;

 

Perform QA/QC tasks; refine data entry processes as required;

 

Create maps to illustrate concepts and identify study areas and corridors; and

 

Develop and maintain documentation and metadata in line with company standards.

 

About You

 

Our preferred candidate has a certificate or diploma in a GIS related field and 2-5 years of related GIS experience. The following attributes and experience are beneficial to thrive in this role:

You are results driven – you have the ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment while striving for high quality performance to deliver results.
