Location: Newmarket, Ontario. This is a Union position.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 35; Scheduled Shifts: 0830 – 1630
Temporary Full-Time, Approx. 5 months, Salary $39.94 - $43.42 per hour
Reporting to the Program Manager, Source Water Protection, is responsible for maintaining and evolving the Branch and Department’s geospatial data; conducting research in business requirements and user needs for GIS applications, in coordination with Departmental Business Technology staff and the Geographic Information Services Division; acquiring and creating spatial data, models and databases; producing cartographic products and reports; analyzing spatial data relationships; participating in projects and cross function project teams; and implementing GIS applications for the projects and clients.
Qualifications
Successful completion of a University Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Environmental Science, or related discipline with an emphasis on or major in GIS, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum one (1) year experience working with GIS and the development of cartographic and analytic products, including web services and applications, user requirements and/or spatial information management.
Experience working with relational database systems and spatial databases (e.g. ArcSDE, Oracle) including database standards, design and data models.
Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
Demonstrated knowledge of GIS principles and use of ESRI’s GIS software and techniques, including ArcGIS Desktop.
Knowledge of relational database systems, spatial data creation methods and techniques and spatial product delivery design and production.
Working knowledge of programming languages (e.g. VBA).
Understanding of and experience with QA/QC principles and data integrity issues.
Knowledge of municipal government responsibilities and practices.
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability.
Skilled in creating, processing and managing engineering information in a structured database environment.
Ability to use ArcGIS for Desktop to make custom map using CAD drawings and other sources.
Ability with AutoCAD Map and ArcGIS for AutoCAD to manipulate engineering drawings.
Ability to implement GIS applications and apply new technologies with minimal guidance.
Analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to teach GIS to the user community.
Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
